Auckland Festival of Quilts - the exhibition from Wendy's Quilts and More

We got a lovely surprise when we walked in to the Festival of Quilts and saw mum's Lucy Boston quilt had a ribbon it!

I was so pleased for mum because it really is a beautiful quilt and deserved something I thought.

We met lots of friends at the quilt show, and made some new friends too.  Everyone was so nice, and I felt very relaxed because I wasn't involved in organising it.

We even went to the prize giving on Saturday evening and mum received a monetary prize for her efforts.  We weren't expecting that!

The ...

Auckland Festival of Quilts from Wendy's Quilts and More

I'm writing this post in advance because I'm going to Auckland Festival of Quilts on Friday with my mum, Joy Hill.

Mum has two quilts in the exhibition so we're going along to see them hanging, plus everything else of course.

Here's mum's first entry - her blue and white Lucy Boston, all English Paper Pieced and hand quilted.

Mum loved making her Lucy Boston quilt and was naturally a bit sad when it was finished!

Mum's other entry is a wool felt applique design by Wendy Williams called "Over the Hill".  I've only ...

All The Blues .... A Lucy Boston quilt by Joy Hill from Wendy's Quilts and More

My mum's Lucy Boston quilt is finished and we both love it. Mum's favourite colour is blue, and she loved choosing fabrics for this quilt.  Hence the name .... "All The Blues".

Mum finished her quilt before Christmas, but she was keeping in under wraps because she was going to enter it in the Auckland Festival of Quilts this year.  But unfortunately that's been called off, and it will be another 18 months before the next Festival, so mum gave me permission to share it now.

Mum has developed a great eye for fussy cutting, and she had ...

092 Lucy Boston Update from Silly Goose Quilts

It's so soothing to sit and stitch a Lucy block at times like these.

It's raining outside, completely unexpectedly because the Bureau of Meteorology website that would normally tell us these things has been broken for days, with no one to fix it I assume.  What a lovely of surprises.  And it's soft and slow and all day long, which is so much better than the fast, flooding rains we've been used to.

That's my silver lining for today.  What's yours?

089 - Lucy Boston update from Silly Goose Quilts

Another few Lucy's are done.  It's really coming along now.  In true Suzie fashion, I've kitted more than I need.  I sure as heck will not be doing another one, so I might throw the extra ones on the back.  Maybe.  What do you think?

I still have the awesomely overwhelming task of doing all the connectors, plus sew them into a quilt.  So whilst I think I've nearly finished, in reality I've got so very much more to get through.

I plod on!  This WILL be the year of finishing everything!

Do you like this one?  I do, very much.  I love blues in the Civil War fabrics.  They just pop, I think.

025 Lucy Boston update from Silly Goose Quilts

Man, all these Lucy blocks.  Are you sick of them yet?  I'm not.  I love them.  I'll assemble a total quilt photo soon when I have a little time.

Almost at the end of school holidays.  Time sure does go fast!  Back into a routine soon enough.  We'll see if I can be as productive in February as I have been in January.  At least blogwise.

Have a great day!

023 Lucy Boston update from Silly Goose Quilts

Each time I finish a Lucy block, I think that this one is my favourite.  Then I do another one and THAT one becomes my favourite.  I love this one too.

022 Lucy Boston Block Blue from Silly Goose Quilts

Another Lucy Boston bites the dust.

Love this one.  Love blues in a quilt.  I'd make a whole Lucy Boston with just blues if it didn't make my jolly thumbs hurt.  Do you get that?  Sore thumbs from handpiecing?  Who'd have thought?

Have a great day!

012 Lucy Boston Update from Silly Goose Quilts

I'm probably block 45 of 56 now.  And I'm enjoying every one.  The blues are always a favourite.  What do you think?

005 - Lucy Boston update from Silly Goose Quilts

In times of trauma, such as this week, I quilt.  I stick my head in my sewing room like an ostrich, and I quilt.  So let me show you what I've been doing.

I've been plodding along, working on my Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses quilt.  It's coming along.  I spent a large amount of time kitting the blocks up and now they are completely portable.  The girls have changed their dance nights, meaning most times I can drop them there and come back, rather than waiting in the car which means my handwork time is ...
